Document Summary

Fall semester: recognize the features of birds, mammals, amphibians, reptiles and fish. Although fish can have limbs in the form of fins, none of the limbs have digits (fingers: amphibians- include organisms such as frogs and salamanders: they start their lives in water. Their larval forms usually have gills to breathe underwater, but their adult forms develop lungs for breathing air. They eat a wide variety of food, which they can chew with teeth. Their eggs do not have a membrane around the embryo. They cannot control their body temperature; they are called ectothermic and need to bask in the sunshine to warm up, and seek shade or water to cool off: reptiles- they produce amniote eggs. Amniote eggs are characterized by having a membrane around the developing embryo to protect it, which is seen not only in reptiles with soft or hard-shelled eggs but also in birds and mammals.
