1) Grams of total carbohydrates per serving: 37 grams
2) Grams of sugar per serving: 3 grams
3) Grams of fiber per serving: 2 grams
4) Grams of total fat per serving: 17 grams
5) Grams of saturated fat per serving: 7 grams
6) Grams of trans fat per serving: 0 grams
7) Grams of protein per serving: 12 grams
Using the values determined above, calculate the number of kilocalories from carbohydrates, fats and
protein in a single serving. Then calculate the total number of kilocalories in a serving. You will only
receive credit if you show your work. (1 pt each)
1) Calories from total carbohydrates: 37 (grams of carb/serving) x 4 (calories/gram of carbs) = 148
kilocalories of carbohydrates/gram)
2) Calories from sugar: 3 (grams of sugar/serving) x 9 (calories/gram of fat) = 27 kcal of
sugar/gram)
3) Calories from fiber: 2 (grams of fiber/serving) x 4 (calories/gram of carbs) = 8 kcal of fiber
**since fiber is a carbohydrate, I just multiplied it by the calories/gram of carbs**
4) Calories from total fat: 17 (grams of total fat/serving) x 9 (calories/gram of total fat) = 153 kcal
of total fat/gram
5) Calories from saturated fat: 7 (grams of saturated fat/serving) x 9 (calories/gram of saturated
fat) = 63 kcal of saturated fat/gram
6) Calories from trans fat: 0 (grams of trans fat/serving) x 9 (calories/gram of trans fat) = 0 kcal of
trans fat/gram
7) Calories from protein: 12 (grams of protein/serving) x 4 (calories/gram of protein) = 48 kcal of
protein/serving
8) Total calories per serving: 148 + 27 + 153 + 48 = 376 total kcal/serving ** I did not add saturated
fat, trans fat or fiber to the total amount of calories because they are added into the total carbs
and total fat portions**
