All living things share a common ancestry (descent) Current species are descended from ancestral species. The species inhabiting the earth have changed through time (modification) Lineages split or speciate, increasing the number of different organisms. All living things share some fundamental traits. Similarity as a result of share a common ancestor. Another line of evidence comes from homologies. Homology is a similarity that exists in species descended from a common ancestor.
