The species inhabiting the earth have changed through time (modification) Lineages split or speciate, increasing the number of different organisms. All living things share some fundamental traits. Similarity as a result of share a common ancestor. Another line of evidence comes from homologies. Homology is a similarity that exists in species descended from a common ancestor.
