Document Summary

They are those that we place in the mouth to prevent the patient from becoming toothless while his final prosthesis is not. Once the tooth has been prepared for a restoration, the dentin has been exposed leaving a large number of dentinal tubules open. The provisional term means that it is established for a period, pending a permanent arrangement. It is a transient prosthesis placed while doing the definitive work, which must have the same qualities, as the finished prosthesis. Wound healing occurs, remodeling of alveolar ridges, etc. To protect the carved parts to place crowns or fixed prostheses for study and verification of vertical dimensions. Aesthetics in most cases is not required. It should be well adjusted to the tooth; otherwise, it can cause gingival inflammation or irritation to the mucosa. Oclusal function: prevents elongations and migrations of teeth by leaving them out of occlusal and proximal contact, so they maintain occlusal function and contact with neighboring teeth.
