Document Summary

Habitat the area or location where an organism resides. Niche what an animal/ organism does within a specific habitat. Ex. how it acquires food/ how or when it reproduces/ survival and adaptations. *no 2 species may occupy the same niche if to continue surviving* Competitive exclusions principle if organisms are to remain the same stable ecological community; no two species may occupy the same niche. Ecology (ernest haeckel) the relationship connecting both organic and inorganic components of the environment to the organism. Animal ecology focuses on the behavior, physiology, genetics, and evolution of animals to study the relationship between population of animals and the environment . To understand why animals live where they do: Environment is composed of everything an organism needs for survival, both biotic (living) and abiotic (nonliving) Forms of energy (sun, heat, wind, water currents) Material (soil, air, water, chemicals) resources what an animal uses directly (space, food) ; can be both expendable and nonexpendable.
