Med surg chapter 62: management of patients with burn injury. Most concerned about children less than 5 or the elderly. Flush with cold water or stop drop and roll. May be from hot liquid or direct flame. Always check air way for burns on the head, neck, face, trunk. Urine will have a red color/ dark tea color. Burns to the face, ears, eyes, hand, feet, perineum. Parkland formula for 1st 24 hours: use lactated ringers. 50% to be infused in 1st 8 hours. After 1st 24 hours change fluid to crystalloid c 5% dextrose in water titrated to maintain urine volume. Make sure there heart rate begins to drop. Required for anyone with burns over 20% of body. Removes eschar allows blood supply to support healthy tissue. Cover wound to prevent infection and promote healing. Doesn"t look as good as your own skin.
