Slide 2: history classes can help us be productive in our lives and can show us how attitudes and behaviors have changed over time. History does, in some ways, forecast our future. Some parts of history really have no meaning for us now, but some parts of history are traditional and have continued on since the inception of the practice or tradition. Some things have withstood the test of time and are still relevant today: ancient greeks used the word stadion (it was a 600 ft measure of length, and it referred to a race, stadion race ). The foot race was performed in an area and now the word stadion has changed and evolved to mean the place where races are held (stadium). In horse racing (chariots, harness races, modern day horse racing), jockeys always wear the respective colors of the horse"s owners.
