Set up a 16. 25-inch-high step bench or bleacher bench (a typical gym bleacher bench is 16. 25 inches high) in a place that will be safe to perform the test. Warm-up prior to the assessment with walking and range of motion exercises. Set the metronome to a pace of 96 beats per minute for men (24 steps/min) and 88 bpm for women (22 steps/min). Listen to the metronome and do a couple of practice steps to ensure that you can step with the right ca- dence ( up, up, down, down ). One foot will be stepping up or down with each beat of the metronome.
