Document Summary
Leadership: explain how a good vision helps you become a better leader. A vision is a mental image that goes beyond the ordinary and perhaps beyond what is. The vision provides the direction in which the leader wants the organization to move and inspiration for people to pursue it: discuss the similarities and differences between leading and managing. Management deals with the ongoing, day-to-day complexities of the organization: structure the organization, staff it with capable people, and monitor activities. Leadership includes effectively orchestrating important change: inspire people to attain a vision and motivate them to overcome obstacles. Classify these individuals as supervisory leaders and strategic leaders. Having power and using it appropriately are essential to effective leadership. Trait approach is the oldest leadership perspective and assumes the existence of a leadership personality, that leaders are born, not made. Some personality characteristics distinguish effective leaders from others: drive, leadership motivation, integrity, self-confidence, knowledge of the business.
