Purpose: the purpose of this lab is to measure a string"s wave pattern and use data to find the tension in the string and the linear mass density. Lab 10: wave motion: add 200g to the mass hanger on the free end of the string and record this total mass. Starting with the function generator at its lowest possible frequency value, adjust it using only minimum necessary amplitude until the string displays its lowest frequency standing wave pattern. Disregard the node at the vibrator end of the string and measure the wavelength from the node at the opposite end: readjust the function generator to obtain n=2 standing wave pattern. Measure the distance from the pulley node to the node that completes a full wavelength of the standing wave. Record the distance measured and the value of n: repeat step two, in succession, for n = 3,4,5,6 etc. It should be possible to reach n = 10 or even higher.
