God promised king david he would have an everlasting dynasty but this didn"t happen because the babylonians conquered the southern kingdoms of jerusalem and no davidic king ever ruled ever again. Elijah was a prophet and told israel to worship yahweh alone. This was during a time when many gods were being worshipped at the same time. Elijah supposedly restored purity among families, performed miracles, and resurrect the dead. The apocalyptic literature was an unveiling of heavenly secrets.
