Grade retention: requiring students to repeat a grade if they don"t meet certain criteria. Capacity to acquire and use knowledge to solve problems and reason in abstract. Multiple intelligences: intelligence is comprised of 8 relative independent demensions. Ability grouping: placing students in groups of similar abilities into groups and matching instructions to need of each group. Between-class ability grouping: divides students into given grade level into groups. Within clas ability grouping: divides students in one class into ability groups. Tracking: places students in series of classes based on ability and career goals. Limitations: improper placement occurs, hurts students self esteem, low level students achieve less when they are in groups together. Metacognition: awareness of the ways they learn more effectively. Students with exceptionalities disabilities: functional limitations or inability to reach full potential. Require support beyond regular classroom to reach full potential. Mainstreaming: placing students with exceptionalities from segregated settings in regular education classrooms.
