Document Summary

There are many, highly variable, situations in which an engineer would want to design some sort of product, but common to all these situations is a set of features that are part of the design process. In each of these processes, there are several roles: the client is the person, group, or company that wants the designer to create a design. The client could be an internal one, working from the same organization as the designer, or external, working at a different organization from the designer. The client provides the motivation for the design and an initial starting point: the user is the one that will operate whatever is being designed. They have to take into account the needs and wants of the clients, users, and public in order to create the product that best serves everyone"s functions. It is important to note that these may not all be different groups.
