Hotel guests have expectaions about their hotel stays that simply must be met. These include such basic items as ample hot water for baths and showers, guest room lights that work, and comfortable temperatures in the hotel"s public spaces and guest rooms. Employees working in a hotel expect that the tools and equipment they need to do their jobs will be safe and in good condiion. In addiion, the owners of a hotel have expectaions. Among other things, they expect that the building and its contents will be correctly repaired and maintained to protect the value of their investments in them. The hotel"s maintenance department meets and fulills all of these expectaions and more. In some hotels, the maintenance department is known as the maintenance and engineering department or the engineering and maintenance department. For that reason, the head of the maintenance department is commonly referred to as the chief engineer.
