Chapter 12 was about the voice.
As I read this textbook, I feel like there are a bunch of suggestions being thrown at me,
and I struggle to keep track of all of them. Sometimes, all of the suggestions make me
more nervous.
I felt like this chapter did a good job addressing some things our body might do as a
result of these nerves.
For example, one of the fundamentals of a good voice is relaxation. Carnegie notes that
you cannot force tones, and should just let your voice go rather than making it go
Also, it’s important to center breathing in the middle of your body and calm down to
make your voice more effective.
While it may be hard, relaxation is a key element of voice and of speech.

A rich, correctly-used voice is the greatest physical factor of persuasiveness and power,
often over-topping the effects of reason
A well-handled voice is also a mark of personal culture

1.) Ease
The secret of a good voice is relaxation
Never force your tones
The voice is a delicate instrument—don’t MAKE your voice go—LET it go
Avoid muscular contraction
Will yourself to relax
Center breathing in the middle of your body
2.) Openness
Open your mouth wide, relax all organs of speech, and let the tone flow out easily
3.) Forwardness
Pitch your tone forward but do not force it forward
How to Develop the Carrying Power of the Voice
Apply the principles of ease, openness and forwardness

Do not gaze at the floor as you talk
