COMM 1112 Chapter 21: Influencing by Narration
Document Summary
In this chapter, a concept that really struck me was that public speaking has a lot to do with personalities. This means that when the author encourages wit and humor as tools of narration, this will look different for every person. Each person has different pasts and anecdotes, and the way each person will convey these is also different. This explains why our first speeches all looked so different. We used different humor and structures, because as the authors advised, we didn"t stick to a specific form. We all pioneer different methods of narration, and they can all be correct. Narration is more easily defined than mastered. Narration- the recital of an incident, or a group of facts and occurrences, in such a manner to produce a desired effect. Frequent combination of narration with exposition, description, argumentation, and pleading. The careful suppression of needless, and therefore hurtful, details.
