Statistical validity- ideal sample sizes depends on content of research method. Qualitative research- attempt to obtain an in-depth understanding of meanings and definitions presented by informants. Nomothetic research- presents generalized understanding of a given case or group of people. Make determinations about the group- not about individual cases. Idiographic research- presents a full description of a given case. Gives meaning of contingent, unique, and often subjective phenomena. Paradigm- a big tent under which several, similar viewpoints cluster. Left leaning personality created by oneself. Right leaning personality created by outside forces. Upwards large incidents (war, potty-training) shape personality. Downwards smaller instances (little albert) shape personality. Personality zone- conceptual work space located on the graph.
