Alyosha believes that the man didn"t know he was going to trample the notes until the very last minute - but he likely had a presentiment of doing this. Alyosha is excited now because he believes this is exactly what should have happened. Now the man believes that he has shown his honor. But they must convince him that they are on equal (or that he is on higher) footing. Lise points out that alyosha analyzing the man and being so sure of what he will do is showing contempt for him.
