Aggression: arguably the greatest social problem in the world. Study: albert bandura (considered to be one of the founders of a school of psychological thought: social learning theory), associates dorothea & sheila ross, 1961 stanford study, Social learning: human interaction is the primary factor in development of human behavior. Ex: important people (ex: parents, teachers) reinforce certain behaviors and ignore or punish others. Bandura wanted to examine in this study whether such imitative learning would generalize to settings in which the child was separated from the model after observing the model"s behavior. Exposed children to adult models who behaved in either aggressive or nonaggressive ways, 4 different predictions: Children who observe adults performing aggressive acts will imitate the adults & engage in similar behaviors, will differ sig from children who observed nonaggressive models or no models at all. Children exposed to nonaggressive models will be less aggressive (than those who did & the control group), an aggression-inhibiting effect .
