Prometheus was a titan, born from gaia and ouranos. Zeus defeated the titans, with the help of prometheus. Later offended zeus by stealing fire from the heavens and giving it to humans. Power wants to punish prometheus (shackle him to a rock) for stealing fire. To prometheus: the one who is to rescue you is not yet born . His punishment is to fry on the rock every day and never see another human. Hephaestus feels bad for punishing prometheus -- they are friends. Hephaestus: how much i hate the special work i do . They are nailing him to a rock, driving stakes through his body to get him to stay put. The name prometheus means someone who thinks ahead . Chorus (daughters of oceanus, god of the sea) arrive to see prometheus. Prometheus: place no trust in friends bc zeus betrayed him. Prometheus gave mankind hope along w/ fire.
