Document Summary

Sex: the biological distinction between females and males. Gender: socially constructed cultural expectations associated with women and men. Biology makes us male or female; culture teaches us to be man or woman. Much of what our culture see as a sex difference is actually socially produced gender differences. Primary sex characteristics: sex differences that directly involved in reproduction such as genitals and reproductive organs. Secondary sex characteristics: include wider hips and breasts in females and more extensive body hair and increased muscle mass in men and are not directly involved in reproduction. Intersexual: individuals born with ambiguous reproductive or sexual anatomy. There are some tests out there that have tried to show biologically the differences between men and women. But once a social structure was set even (the playing of a video game) was introduced there was no difference between male and female performance.
