Convey emotions we may not be able or willing to verbally express (unconscious) Use caution when responding - don"t jump to conclusions. There is always more than one interpretation. Nonverbal communication is influenced by gender and culture. Emblems: substitutes for verbal expressions (ie nodding for yes) Women are more nonverbally expressive than men. Smile more, use more facial expressions and gestures, touch others more, stand closer to others, are more verbally expressive, make more eye contact. Sizing up others and offering your attitude towards them. Create and stimulate the emotional and social climate. Changes in vocal intonation, drawl on last syllable, drop in pitch or loudness. How we look, act, and sound influencing the perception of others to reach our goals. Setting: physical items we surround ourselves with that we put there by choice.
