HHS 231 Chapter Notes - Chapter 9: Fast Food Restaurant, Strained Yogurt, Types Of Restaurant
Document Summary
Common issues and strategies for healthy eating: not listening to our hunger cues. Two main ways in which we respond to our bodies with regards to food. Satiety: feeling of fullness and satisfaction we get from food. Depends on 1) type of meal (must have diverse macros or mixed meals). Hunger = one"s need to eat asap. (physiological) As hunger increases, we have greater cravings and desire for fat and sugary foods. We crave them because our blood sugar levels have depleted, and it needs simple carbs to bring blood sugar levels back up quickly. The body also craves fats due to the high energy density of 9 cal/gram. Both simple sugar and high fat foods introduce a pleasure response from the brain. Mindless vs mindful eating: if the bowl or plate was continually refilled and thus never empty, individuals tended to overeat and not listen to their satiety cues.
