Appendicitis: appendicitis inflammation of the appendix, a narrow blind tube that extends from the inferior part of. Longitudinal and penetrate between islands of inflamed edematous mucosa, causing cobblestone appearance. Starts in the rectum and moves in a continual fashion toward the cecum: mucosal later. Chapter 42 lower gastrointestinal problems: chron"s disease. Increase in liver enzymes, triglycerides, glucose, bilirubin; decrease in calcium. Hypotension, fever tachypnea: monitor fluid and electrolyte balance. Hypocalcemia tetany (jerking, irritability, muscular twitching); tingling around the lips and fingers; positive chvostek"s sign or trousseau"s sign. Assuming positions that flex the trunk and draw the knees up to the abdomen may decrease pain. Side-lying position with the head elevated 45 degrees decreases tension on the abdomen and may help ease the pain.
