Tragedy of the commons - the government plays a key role in preserving common or open access renewable resources. Politics - the process by which individuals and groups try to influence or control the policies and actions of the governments at local, state, and international levels. Environmental policy - environmental laws, regulations, and programs that are designed, implemented, funded, and enforced by one or more government agencies. Problem recognition where the problem is identified by members of the public or by a policy maker. Policy formulation - a cause of causes of the problem are identified and a solution such as a law or program to help deal with the problem is proposed and developed. Policy implementation - a law is passed or a regulation written to put the solution into effect. Policy adjustment - the new program is monitored, evaluated, and adjusted as necessary.
