Afferent- extend from the cns to every part of the body, it reports what the body is doing and feeling. Efferent- sends messages, impulses from the cns to other parts of the body (muscles, glands, and organs) Interneuron- organize and regulate transmissions between nerve cells. Cortex- has six layer that differ in anatomy and function. Transcranial magnetic stimulation- uses rapidly changing magnetic fields to temporarily knock out a part of the brain (visually creates a brain lesion without having to physically cut a part of the brain out) Amygdala- people high in neuroticism have a larger amygdala; links perception and thoughts with emotional meaning; responsible for fear. People who are shy have active amygdalas when shown pics of people they don"t know. People with anxiety, panic attacks, ptsd have active amygdalas all the time. Can cause people to act violently and want to kill others (charles whitman, the texas sniper)
