Document Summary
Obesity is a big problem in the usa; it plays a role in chronic illnesses and certain cancers, and is estimated to kill more than 110,000 us americans a year. The problem is that people eat too much, especially foods with a high number of calories and a low number of nutrients, and we do not engage in enough physical activity. Recommendations: consume a variety of nutrient-dense foods within and across the food groups, especially whole grains, fruits, vegetables, low-fat or fat-free milk or milk products, and lean meats and other protein sources. Objectives (healthy people 2020): attain high-quality, longer lives free of preventable disease, disability, injury, and premature death. Achieve health equity, eliminate disparities, and improve health of all groups. Create social and physical environments that promote good health for all. Promote quality of life, healthy development, and healthy behaviors across all life stages.
