Example: islam and the qur"an: all scriptures are authoritative and normative guides for life. Example: christianity and its ten commandments: three ways scriptures are used in communities of faith, scriptures help direct followers how to perform public worships and rituals. For example, seasonal rituals require the scriptures to help secure the renewal and well-being of the community: scriptures aid in meditation and devotion. Buddhist monks recite and chant the buddhist scriptures: scriptures can be used to perform magical or quasi-magical functions.
