It"s time for an annual report of human development in the islamic world. Such a study will regularly update all the information on human development progress in islamic countries, concentrate on selected policy issues that need the attention of the region"s top decision-makers, and highlight unique country experiences in the islamic world. The islamic development bank could take the lead in funding such a report being drawn up by an independent group of experts from the islamic region. A network of research institutions in islamic countries may do the history analysis: beyond this study all islamic countries will develop their own human- development policies. To this end, they must set a time period of 10-15 years, pick achievable targets, and realistically cost them out. They will then formulate a practical financial strategy, restructure their current goals, raise additional domestic resources and seek additional external assistance.
