STAT 201 Chapter Notes - Chapter 2.2: Pareto Chart, Pareto Principle, Bar Chart

24 views2 pages

Document Summary

Pareto chart= a bar graph with categories ordered by their frequencies from tallest to shortest bar. Pareto principle= states that a small subset of categories often contains most of the observations. Shows a dot for each observation, placed just above the value on the number line: stem and leaf plots. Stem consists of all digits except the final one, which is the leaf. You sort data in order from smallest to largest: place stems in one column, starting with smallest, list leaves in increasing order, histograms. Uses bars to summarize frequencies of outcome. For discrete variable, usually has separate bar for each possible value. For continuous, you divide intervals into smaller intervals formed with values grouped together. Dot plot and stem and leaf are more useful for small data sets: histograms are better for large data sets. More flexibility is possible in defining intervals with histogram.
