Document Summary

A prevalent theme we see throughout the book is that gulliver has learned to despise all humanity for its weakness and sinfulness. This actually ties back to the idea of this book being a satire. It makes sense that the last part really focuses on that aspect. Gulliver is struggling with the idea of being around humans again. He can not even stand to be around his own wife and children. As readers, we understand that swift is not just writing about england being corrupt, he is referring to all of mankind. I believe the lesson he is trying to teach us deals with pride. We see that he has truly encountered the weight of the fall of human kind and it has impacted his perception tremendously. This is not just a lesson for gulliver though. As readers i believe if we were as burdened by our own sinful nature, as gulliver, that the world would be a better place.
