ENGL 231 Chapter : Week 7 Midterm
Document Summary
Have you ever heard the saying, you can"t have a rainbow without a little rain? this can be a way to describe the prevalent theme found in gawain and the green knight. Most christians believe that god allows evil to happen in order to bring forth a greater good. Gawain can be described as fortunate because it leads to his return as a better knight who understands his christian beliefs, learned the importance of knowledge of sin, and learned humility and the true meaning of honor. Gawain understands that in christian tradition the fall in the garden of eden is a terrible tragedy for humankind, but ultimately fortunate. Without sin, there is no need for a savior. Likewise, without the fall, there would have been nothing for gawain to learn from. Gawain also learned the importance of the knowledge of sin.
