The formal study of man"s interaction with the proximate (immediate) environment. Both involve: space planning, analyze needs, codes and regulations, communication (drawing and verbal), collaboration. Duties of an interior designer: safety and function, creativity, people and space. The linear marks made with a pen or brush or the edge created when two shapes meet. All lines have direction- horizontal, vertical or oblique. Vertical gives a feeling of balance, formality and alertness. Size is simply the relationship of the area occupied by one shape to that of another. Texture is the surface quality of a shape rough, smooth, soft hard glossy etc. Value is the lightness or darkness of a color. A small shape close to the edge can balance a large shape close to the center.
