Chapter 5- interest aggregation and political parties (106-132: interest aggregation is the process by which political demands are combined into policy programs, how interests are aggregated is a key feature of politics. Patterns of interest aggregation linked to government stability as well as their ability to function and adapt: political parties important agents in interest aggregation. In democratic system two or more parties compete to gain support for their alternative policy programs. In authoritarian systems a single party or institution may try to mobilize citizens" support for its policies. Interest aggregation takes place within political parties: in authoritarian systems the process is frequently covert and controlled; interests are mobilized to support the government, rather than the government responding to public interests. Personal interest aggregation: consist of personal connections.
