51 views5 pages

Document Summary

You do use all of your brain, just not all of it at the same time. At any given time, some areas of the brain are more active than others. If you used all the parts of your brain at the same time, you would have spasms not increased intelligence, and using every neuron at once would give you convulsions. Brain activity requires a pattern of inhibited and firing neurons. Monism- the idea that mental activity and brain activity are inseparable. You cannot have mental activity without brain activity, the brain and mice are not separate. Central nervous system- consisting of the brain and the spinal cord communicates to the rest of the body. Peripheral nervous system- consists of nerves connecting the spinal cord with the rest of the body. Somatic nervous system- connects to the skin and muscles. Autonomic nervous system- connects to the heart, stomach and organs.
