In our unconscious mind we cannot distinguish between a wish and a deed: death is seen as a temporary thing to children- they cannot fathom the idea of it. This grief, shame and guilt are not very far removed from feelings of anger and rage. The dead person then turns into something the child loves and wants very much but also hates with equal intensity for this severe deprivation. : tombstone tradition comes from wish to keep bad spirits in the ground. If not the child will have unresolved grief and trauma, no way to properly cope: the more advanced we become in science the more we fear and deny death.
