Atribuion theory- a systemaic explanaion of how people draw inferences about the character of others based upon observed behavior. Uncertainty reducion- increased knowledge of what kind of person another is, which provides an improved forecast of how a future interacion will turn out. Axiom- a self-evident truth that requires no addiional proof. Theorem- a proposiion that logically and necessarily follows from two axioms. Passive strategy- impression formaion by observing a person interacing with others. Acive strategy- impression formaion by asking a third party about a person. Interacive strategy- impression formaion through face-to-face discussion with a person. Extracive strategy- impression formaion by searching the internet for informaion about a person. Plan complexity- a characterisic of a message plan based on the level of detail it provides and the number of coningencies it covers. Hedging- use of strategic ambiguity and humor to provide a way for both paries to save face when a message fails to achieve its goal.
