Scientific publications use a process called peer review to weed out biased research. Bing claims that it is the most popular search engine. If it can"t be reliably reproduced, it is not empirical. Scientific theories are evidence based a theory should account for some prior observations, be able to make new predictions. Why is a theory important: when you look blindly for patterns, you can find a lot of nonsense. There is a correlation between the number of children named ava and housing prices. Strong correlation between the us spending on science, space and technology and suicides by hanging. Strong correlation between the number of people drowning in swimming pools, and the number of nicholas cage movies in that same year. Suggest a relationship for some reason, two things change in tandem. Real life correlations: height and weight study time and gpa number of friends and self esteem.
