Document Summary

Polar covalent bonds- unequal sharing of electrons, v-shape, like water, charge is unevenly distributed. Water molecules are polar covalent bonds, molecules are held together by a hydrogen bond. Bonds are very short, water molecules are constantly forming new bonds. Water molecules are also hydrogen bonded to their neighbors. Water is more structured than other liquids due to cohesion. Contributes to the transport of water in plant systems. Upward pull of cohesion is transported to the parts of a plant. Adhesion- clinging of one unlike substance to another. Surface tension- measure of how difficult it is to break or stretch the surface of a liquid. Water has a high surface tension because of the hydrogen bonds in it. Water moderates air temperature by absorbing heat from air that is warmer, and releasing the air that is cooler. Effective as heat bank, since it absorbs/releases heat, without a significant change in temperature. Kinetic energy- energy released whenever something is moving.
