Psychodynamic model: looks at people"s unconscious internal processes and conflicts. Behavioral model: emphasizes behavior and the ways in which it is learned. Cognitive model: concentrates on the thinking that underlies behavior. Humanistic-existential model: stress the role of values and choices. Sociocultural model: looks to social and cultural forces as the keys to human functioning, includes: Family social perspective- focuses on an individual"s family and social interactions. Multicultural perspective- emphasizes an individual"s culture and the shared beliefs, values, and history of that culture. The biological model: thoughts and feelings are the results of bio-chemical and bioelectrical processes throughout the brain and body, brain anatomy and abnormal behavior. The brain is made of 100 billion neurons. Brain regions- groups of neurons that form distinct areas. Cerebrum- region towards the top of the brain. Includes the cortex, corpus calosum, basal ganglia, hippocampus, and amygdala. Cortex- the outer layer of the brian. Corpus callosum- connects the brain"s 2 cerebral hemispheres.
