Onset is usually between 14-20 years old: prevalence is increasing in north america, europe, and japan. Clinical picture: becoming thin is the key goal for people with anorexia nervosa, but. Fear provides the motivation: people are preoccupied with food. They spend time thinking and reading about food, even dreaming about food: starvation study. 36 normal weight participants were put in a semistarvation diet for 6 months like people with anorexia nervosa- they became preoccupied with food and eating: people with anorexia nervosa think in distorted ways. They usually have a low opinion of their body shape. They are likely to overestimate their proportions: people can also have psychological problems.
