Document Summary

28 the female reproductive system: 28. 1 reproductive anatomy. The female reproductive tract develops from the paramesonephric duct because there is an absence of testosterone and mullerian-inhibiting factor (mif). Without testosterone the mesonephric duct degenerates while the genital tubercle becomes the glans of the clitoris, the urogenital folds develop into labia minora and the labioscrotal folds develop into the labia majora. Without mif, the paramesonephric duct develops into the uterine tubes, uterus, and vagina. The internal genitalia include the ovaries and a duct system that runs from each ovary to the outside of the body. The ovaries are the primary sex organs and other internal and external genitalia are the secondary sex organs. The female gonads are the ovaries which produce egg cells (ova) and sex hormones. There is a central medulla and outer cortex. The medulla is a core of ct with principles arteries and veins.
