Reversal Design
Single-case methodology based on baseline logic:
Repeated measurements of behavior under at lease two experimental
A: Baseline
B: Intervention
If there is a measurable change in intervention (B), following baseline (A),
it is probable that the intervention was responsible for the change
Reversal Design
To verify the hypothesis the researcher can withdraw or reverse the conditions and
return to baseline
By reintroducing the intervention again, a more powerful demonstration of
experimental control is possible
The A-B Design
Seldom used in research
Does not permit analysis of functional relations
Correlational ONLY
Is subject to threats to external and internal validity
ABA Design
Preferable to A-B design
Withdraw of treatment permits demonstration of functional relations
If the behavior returns to baseline levels
Susceptible to sequential confounding
Order effects
Ethical Problems: should effective intervention be withdrawn
