Militarism is a defining trademark of large and powerful sociopathic societies. In the most powerful rome and britain and now the united states it gives rise to empire. Policy and especially wars of conquest by empires or hegemonic powers are sociopathic because they kill or injure large numbers of innocents while undermining the integrity or survival of entire society"s including the imperial hegemon itself. The us is an empire it has developed a neocolonial model different from european and other past empires. Much of american imperial force has been exercised using soft power, including economic and diplomatic influence; and the us has been anti-colonial in its strategic approach to world power. Empires based on soft power that do not acquire formal or legal colonies are still empires.
