Sensation occurs when special receptors in a sense organ gets activated. Allows to convert outside stimuli to neural activity. Synesthesia one sense is confused with another (blending of senses) Sensory information goes to wrong part of brain. Light doesn"t travel through brain each sense system has to translate physical stimuli from outside into language of neural info. Sensory receptor cells convert specific stimuli into neural impulses. Absolute threshold minimum stimulation necessary for detection. Difference threshold (jnd) smallest difference between 2 stimuli needed to detect difference. Sensory adaptation receptor cells become less responsive to stimulus that is unchanging. Rods and cones change light into neural impulses. Light made photons (waves) we see visible spectrum. Purity saturation (highly saturated means singular wavelength) Cornea, aqueous humor, pupil (iris controls size), lens, vitreous humor, retina. Retina back, last place light will go. Rods and cones receive light and convert it to neural signals. Rods = low levels of light (low acuity)
