Document Summary

What is the relationship between fact and theory in evolution. The change in the genetic composition of populations over time is known as evolution. We can observe it on a daily basis. Observe the spread of new genetic variants through a population. See effects of genetic change on the form and function of organisms. The resulting understanding of the mechanisms of evolutionary change is known as evolutionary theory. When we refer to the theory, we"re referring to our understanding of the mechanisms that result in genetic changes in populations over time. Darwin and wallace introduced the idea of evolution by natural selection. Biologists suggested that species living on earth had changed over time. Jean-baptiste lamarck presented strong evidence for the fact of of evolution in 1809. But ideas about how evolution occurred weren"t convincing. Darwin joined the voyage around the world on the hms beagle. Whenever possible, he went ashore to study rocks and observe and collect plants and animals.
