Increasing temperatures, increases in frequency and temperature of heat waves, changes in precipitation patterns, and sea level rise is affect human health. While all americans are at risk, some populations are more vulnerable than others. The risks of climate change for human health are expected to increase in the future. Health benefits of reducing greenhouse gases could result in economic benefits of hundreds of billions of dollars each year. Climate change exacerbates existing climate-sensitive health threats and creates new challenges, exposing more people in more places to hazardous weather and climate conditions. Key message 1: climate change affects the health of all americans. Alters exposures to heat waves, floods, droughts, and other extreme events, vector- food-water borne infectious diseases, changes in the quality and safety of air, food, and water, and stresses to mental health and well being. Can exacerbate underlying medical conditions, increase stress, and lead to adverse mental health effects.
