Development of fortified walls, door locks, and safes led to criminals" adaptive strategies. Necessary to guard against the assumption that new technologies will always be better than older technologies and devices. Even when benefits are clear, possible risks and consequences need to be considered. The effectiveness of technology is limited by the errors made by the human beings who use it. As new technologies emerge, so do people who take advantage of them for their own gain. For many, identity theft can occur without any financial loss.
