Violent crime: the use of force exercised without excuse or justification to achieve a goal at the expense of a victim. Violence can be controlled and may be the default option when controls are lacking. The willful (nonnegligent) killing of one human being by another. Only murders in which the victim-offender relationship was known are included. Ages 18-24 are most likely to be killed. U. s. murder rate is much lower than in most other countries. Dropped dramatically in the u. s. from the 90"s due to large decrease in crack market and in gang warfare as territories became consolidated by the strong pushing out the weak. May also be due to medical and technological improvements. Aggravated or first-degree murder: the most serious kind of murder that requires the act be committed with malice and aforethought, deliberation, and premeditation. Only kind of murder the offender can be executed for. Second-degree murder: the intentional killing of another human being without premeditation and deliberation.
