Summary for policymakers of the 5th ipcc assessment report. Mitigation pathways and measures in the context of sustainable development. In baseline scenarios, ghg emissions are project to grow in all sectors, except for net carbon emissions in land-use industries. In 2010, industry accounted for 28% of final energy use and 13 gigatons of carbon emissions direct, indirect, and process with emissions projected to increase 50 150% by 2050 in baseline scenarios. Industrial energy intensity may be directly reduced by one-quarter compared to today via wide- scale upgrading, replacement, and deployment of current technologies, especially in countries where these are not used and in non-energy intensive industries. Important options for mitigation and waste management are waste reduction, followed by reuse, recycling, and energy recovery. Land-use (agriculture, forestry, etc. : the land-use sector accounted for about 25% of net anthropogenic ghg emissions, mostly from deforestation, agricultural emissions from soil, and nutrient management and livestock.
